MEMBERS of Huddersfield Deaf Centre discussed their issues with Kirklees Council leader, Mehboob Khan.

The group met Clr Khan as part of the council’s It’s Time To Talk scheme, which aims to find out how residents and community groups can help provide services alongside the council.

The programme was launched in response to council funding cuts from central government.

Clr Khan said: “Local government across Europe and the UK is facing massive financial pressure but here in Kirklees we don’t intend to be caught in the headlights when the cuts impact and will make a once in a generation transformation of the council, formed in 1974, into one which will meet modern challenges.”

More public It’s Time to Talk events take place at Phoenix Centre, Dunford Road, Holmfirth, tonight (7pm to 9pm), Huddersfield Town Hall, on June 19 (2pm to 4pm) and Northorpe Hall, 53 Northorpe Lane, Mirfield, on June 24 (7pm to 9pm).
