STAFF at a Clayton West tourist attraction are celebrating winning awards for one of its most popular events.

The members of Kirklees Light Railway have just returned from London with two awards for its much-loved Thomas the Tank Engine days.

The attraction was winner of the highest evaluation mark and the most improved day out of 2010 in Great Britain.

The railway’s general manager Stuart Ross said: “This is a great achievement for the railway.

“The Day Out with Thomas is always popular with the families that visit.

“The staff at the railway, many of whom are volunteers, work really hard to make the events enjoyable for all the visitors.”

Next Saturday and Sunday November 12 and 13, Thomas will be again visiting the railway from the Island of Sodor.

He will be bringing Percy, Toby and Mavis with him and the Fat Controller will be on hand to ensure that all the trains will be behaving.

The days will include live re-enactments to allow children to get up close to Thomas and earn their junior engineer certificates.

There will be lots of other activities taking place, including face-painting, bouncy castles, donkey rides and rides on the miniature train.

Trains will be running every half hour from Clayton West station from 10am until 4pm.
