Big decisions

Members of the cabinet are discussing two important matters today - both involving (potentially) large sums of money.

They are discussing the proposal to grant a £4m loan to help make a planned snow centre a reality. It will form part of the £70m HD One leisure and retail development.

Also on the agenda is the controversial Hunter tip site at Lockwood. They are talking about setting aside money to clear the tip - but the sum involved has yet to be made public.

Follow the live blog to see how the debate unfolds.

Houses near Aldi worth £5k more

Did you know your house may be worth £5,000 more on average if you live near an Aldi?

Recent research by My Home Move showed an increase in home values in the vicinity of one of the budget supermarkets within months of it opening.

There are currently five stores in Huddersfield: Castlegate Retail Park on St John’s Road, Gallagher Retail Park in Waterloo, Britannia Rd in Slaithwaite and two stores on Scar Lane in Milnsbridge and Golcar - great news if you live nearby!

Music academic's album hits the charts

A University of Huddersfield academic has made the charts.

Well, not in the way Taylor Swift and Kanye West do. Dr Rupert Till was involved in the production of Ice and Longboats, a collection of Ancient Scandanavian music which this week landed the top 20 classical albums charts.

Music academic Dr Till was behind the controls for the recording of the CD.

More Vikings than VMAs - but a fantastic achievement!

M62: False reports of medical incident

Just an update on what’s been going on on the M62. We’ve had calls from both Highways England and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) confirming that they were called to reports of an incident only to find nothing.

A spokeswoman for YAS said: “We were called to one incident of a medical incident at junction 24 at 8.34am. When we got there, there was a broken down van which was empty and no medical attendance needed.

“We had another call at 7.32am again for medical assistance at junction 21. On arrival, this was a white car which had broken down. The male occupant did not need medical assistance.

“Both incidents were on the eastbound carriage.”

Very strange!
