A PARK group has been given a £47,700 boost.

The Friends of Rectory Park, based in Thornhill, have got a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It will be used for a Rectory Park Gone Wild programme to promote the park and raise awareness of its heritage and habitats.

Kirklees Council is putting £500 into the scheme and staff will help maintain and carry out improvements.

The grant will also fund investigations to find ways of boosting biodiversity in the park.

A council report says: “Rectory Park is a valuable public green space but complaints have been made about sections of it which appear untidy. However these areas have been left wild to preserve habitats, encourage biodiversity and add interest.”

Kirklees Cabinet also allocated £164,000 towards improvements in the park last October.
