Kirklees Council have started legal moves to again evict another band of travellers,

They have moved onto playing fields in Gomersal, having earlier been camped on playing fields in New North Road, Heckmondwike.

The latest encampment is on land behind the old Maccess building.

A Kirklees spokesman said: “The council has begun proceedings for the encampment at Shirley Avenue, Gomersal.

“Unauthorised encampments are always prioritised to minimise any impact on communities and where possible the council takes steps to improve security to stop any further trespass.”

The problem for the council is that it costs thousands to take out eviction orders through the courts but the travellers move on hours before they are to be served.

There are also often big costs of cleaning up the sites.
