CHARITABLE couple Billy and Joyce Richardson aren’t accepting gifts for their golden wedding.

Instead the churchgoing pair from Honley, pictured now and on their wedding day, have asked friends and relatives to give cash to Kirkwood Hospice.

Billy, 71, met Joyce, 70, at Holmfirth Picturedrome in 1956 while Billy was on leave from National Service.

Mr Richardson, a retired engineer, and Mrs Richardson, a retired worsted mender, wed on April 5 1958.

The pair have five children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

They enjoy sport, regular exercise and music, which they say has kept them together.

Billy, a member of St Thomas’s Church, Manchester Road, says: “We have our own ideas on life but the basics that matter are family, our church and our interest in sport and music.”

Billy and Joyce will have a small celebration at their church on Sunday.

Mr Richardson, a singer in Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, added: “If someone bought us a gift we’d only have to find somewhere to put it and we’ve been supporters of Kirkwood for a long time.”
