A masked robber armed with a knife snatched cash from a hair salon in a midday raid.

The robbery took place at Freshair, New Hey Road, Oakes, at 12pm on Saturday.

The suspect entered the hairdresser, approached the female owner, drew a knife and demanded money from the till.

The robber then fled with cash down Oakes Road South.

The suspect is described as 5ft 10ins and of medium build. He was wearing a white baseball cap with a large peak, a dark zipped up jacket, black trousers and black trainers.

Investigating officer Det Insp George Bardell said: “There was one staff member and one customer present.

“The suspect approached the victim, who was the owner, produced a knife and asked for money from the till.

“The victim in fear handed over a small amount of cash and then the suspect ran from the scene down Oakes Road South.”
