LABOUR have chosen community campaigner Florence Smith as their candidate in August 14's Heckmondwike by- election.
Ms Smith, who has lived in Heckmondwike for over 30 years, is well known in the community.
She worked in Heckmondwike Library before retiring to help run several voluntary groups in the area.
Ms Smith said: "This election is one of the most important in Heckmondwike for many years. For the first time we will have the BNP standing.
"Labour are the only party who can beat the BNP in Heckmondwike, because we are the only party who can really deal with local people's problems."
