There is still time for you to be part of a little bit of local history.

The Examiner Charity Challenge reaches its 25th anniversary on Sunday and fundraisers will be out in force to help local charities.

And their record over the years is nothing short of remarkable.

An astonishing 17,250 people have walked, run, cycled and ridden horses in the previous Charity Challenges.

And their efforts have raised almost £¾ m for local and national charities and organisations.

This year’s “silver anniversary” event is on Sunday, May 18, with most of the events taking place at the Lepton Highlanders sports complex in Wakefield Road.

Scores of people have already registered for the walks but organisers say people can turn up on the day and take part in either of the two seven-mile walks, which set off at 9.30am and 10.30am.

There is also a shorter four-mile walk which sets off at 9.30am and again people can take part on the day.

Elsewhere, horse riders are meeting at Marsden for a guided ride and in Beaumont Park, there is a short walk for toddlers, children and people in wheelchairs.

All the events have been organised by Lions Club members from Huddersfield who have worked with the Examiner over a quarter of a century to make the event such a huge success.

Bob Armitage, of the Lions, said: “Every penny that has ben raised has gone to good causes and the Lions don’t take anything for the administration or organisation.

“Over the years that sum raised has risen to very close to the £¾m mark which is fantastic.

“It has been a really successful event over the years and to raise that amount of money and get so many people involved is amazing.

“We want people to come along on Sunday and help us make this landmark 25th event a really special one. We have asked the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to fly in and land on the fields at 1pm so that walkers can see one of the charities they have helped”
