A FORMER hairdressers shop could re-open as a cafe opening until 3am.

An application has been submitted to Kirklees Council to convert the former Rubens Hair and Beauty Ltd, based at 9 Westgate, Huddersfield, into a cafe.

The applicant wants to open the cafe from 9am until 3am Monday to Saturday and 11am until 1am on Sundays.

However, it will not sell alcohol.

A planning report, written by the agent, Philip Fletcher, says: “The applicant feels that a large number of students and the local community are not catered for, particularly at night, for ice-cream, soft drinks and social activities without a full meal or the influence of alcohol.

“It is considered that too much emphasis is planed upon alcohol. The applicant proposed to provide a casual, non-alcoholic feel.

“The extended opening hours are considered essential to provide a venue for the large numbers of potential customers requiring a social outlet without an alcohol highlight.”

It will create ten part time jobs and four full time jobs.
