A TERRORIST scare that prompted the evacuation of Huddersfield Town Hall was caused by a bottle of shampoo.
Anti-terrorism experts were called after a suspicious package addressed to the ‘head of the council’ was left unattended at the town hall on Thursday.
Players and spectators at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival were rushed out of the building as the alarm was activated.
A planning meeting was also abandoned and council officials were told to leave. Guests who had been due to attend a town hall dinner were moved to the George Hotel.
The 60-year-old man who had caused the incident was initially arrested. But police have confirmed he was later released without charge. It is thought he told officers he had started a shampoo manufacturing firm and wanted to give the head of the council a free sample.
