A LAW firm with offices in Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford has been placed in compulsory liquidation.
William Hicks and Partners, with an office in Netheroyd Hill Road, Cowcliffe, shut in mysterious circumstances last month.
But today it has been confirmed that Revenue and Customs officers have petitioned for the firm to be put into liquidation over unpaid accounts.
Ian Schofield and Willie Duncan, corporate recovery partners with accountants and business advisers PKF, have been appointed joint liquidators.
The liquidation follows a dispute with the Legal Services Commission over payments of amounts due to the practice for work done.
It came after a petition from HM Revenue & Customs.
The joint liquidators are now looking into the affairs of the law firm.
The firm has two partners, William Hicks and Ian Hudson, who have practised as solicitors for a number of years.
It specialised in corporate and employment law, commercial property, residential conveyancing, family law and divorce, criminal law and personal injury claims.
Mr Schofield, who is based in the Leeds office of PKF said: "Our position is that we are now trying to recover the value of the work that was in progress and make arrangements with the Law Society for it to take possession of client files and securities such as title deeds, wills or personal possessions."
The office closure last month left clients baffled.
A notice appeared in the Huddersfield office saying it had closed.
Calls to the Halifax branch were met with an engaged tone and the Bradford office had an answering machine.
