A BATLEY-born businessman will be honoured for his contribution to the Yorkshire region.

Lawrence Tomlinson, founder and chairman of Leeds-based LNT Group, will receive an honorary degree from Bradford University next week.

Mr Tomlinson, a graduate of the university, will be made Doctor of Engineering for his commitment to improving the lives of the elderly, his commitment to engineering, ecology and equality.

Mr Tomlinson’s business covers areas as diverse as construction, care homes and car manufacturing.

Others who will receive honorary degrees during the university’s summer graduation ceremonies include Trevor Higgins, chairman of the Bradford Employment and Skills Board; Prof John D Smith, director of supplier quality for Ford Europe; and Prof David Sharpe, director of the plastic surgery and burns unit at Bradford and Airedale Teaching and Primary Care Trust.
