THESE are the leaders of tomorrow.

Nearly 60 students were selected from across Kirklees as having leadership potential.

The pupils, who came from Newsome High, Newsome Junior, Hillside Primary, South Crosland Moor Junior and Mirfield Free Grammar schools were mixed-up into teams and set a number of tasks.

These included debating and how to run a meeting, team building, problem solving and how to avoid using the phrase “I can’t”.

The groups also worked on time-banking, a community-based initiative that helps neighbours work in tandem to provide each other with a service.

Games organiser and SPIN manager Linda Stacey said: “We hope to take these ideas into the community.

“It could be doing the gardening in return for a cake or putting away elderly people’s bins on the way to school.

“We also hope to further develop the links between Mirfield Free Grammar and Newsome High School.”
