A TOP politician has just visited Huddersfield.

Shadow Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox visited Air Cadets at the Territorial Army centre on St Paul’s Street.

The Conservative MP also went to the Examiner’s office on Queen Street South.

He was accompanied by Jason McCartney, who will be the Tory candidate for Colne Valley at the next general election.

Dr Fox sounded a confident note about his party’s prospects.

He said: “We’ve got a good candidate and we’ve been making a lot of headway.

“I feel things are moving our way politically, but we’re not taking anything for granted.”

Dr Fox added he didn’t agree with recent speculation that new Prime Minister Gordon Brown will call a general election next year.

Dr Fox said: “I think he will go on through to 2009.

“He’s been planning to be Prime Minister since he was an embryo, so he won’t want to risk going early.”
