A YORKSHIRE Euro- MP has reported the far-Right British National Party to the police.
David Bowe, Labour Euro-MP for Yorkshire and Humberside, said he was outraged at "the disgusting lies" printed in the BNP election leaflet.
He added: "The BNP put one of their leaflets through my front door.
"It is clear from the leaflet, and the conversation I had with the people who delivered it, that the BNP has a clear and cynical strategy of creating and perpetuating myths designed to promote racial and community tensions.
"If you tell a lie enough times people start to believe it."
Police in the North- East are already investigating BNP claims that asylum seekers get free mobile phones and benefit cheques to buy cars.
Mr Bowe said: "As a senior police officer in Northumbria has said, there is a real danger this kind of activity could lead to serious problems, including the targeting of vulnerable groups."
"That is why I am contacting the forces in this region, urging them to look very carefully at the leaflets being circulated locally and consider whether there is a case for following the lead from the North-East."
The BNP's Euro-candidate for Yorkshire, Nick Cass, hit back, asking how asylum seekers afforded to live without the help of the state.
He added: "I would say that Mr Bowe does not know what is going on."
