AN award-winning lecturer has praised his boyhood tutors in Huddersfield for their inspirational teaching.

John Semenowicz lectures in Welding and Fabric at Keighley College.

He was presented with the City and Guilds Medal of Excellence Award for lecturers and trainers at a ceremony in Leeds.

It is the first year the accolade has been given. John is the only person in Yorkshire and Humber to have received it.

"It is nice to be recognised for the work I do," said John, who now lives at Colne in Lancashire.

"But this achievement has only been possible due to the teacher training I received in Huddersfield.

"I am also indebted to the tutors at Huddersfield Technical College who trained me as an engineer back in the 1970s."
