FIREFIGHTERS from across West Yorkshire were sent to Leeds Bradford Airport after a bomb scare.

Emergency services were called to the airport on Friday evening following reports that a suspicious package had been discovered.

The object was discovered near the runway, causing hundreds of passengers to be evacuated and nearby roads to be closed.

Police were said to be treating the incident as a hoax.

It is not thought that any flights were disrupted and the airport resumed normal operation within two hours.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “We responded to a security alert after reports of a suspicious package.

“Initial enquiries suggest that this was a hoax call, however officers are still investigating. All passengers are safe.”

West Yorkshire Fire Service also sent several engines to the scene.
