A BUILDING society branch in Huddersfield is collecting shoeboxes full of gifts for this year’s Operation Christmas Child Appeal
Leeds Building Society at Market Street is supporting the Samaritan’s Purse in its annual appeal.
The official deadline for dropping off shoeboxes is the end of this week. However, the branch will continue to accept the donations during the early part of next week.
Simon Barrington, executive director of Samaritan’s Purse UK, said: “Operation Christmas Child has been running since 1990 and we would love to reach the milestone of delivering our 100 millionth gift-filled shoebox this year.
“People should fill their shoebox with simple items such as scarves, toothbrushes, pens and soft toys. They can then drop off their shoebox at their local Huddersfield branch of Leeds Building Society.”
Branch manager Ann Bailey said: “We have enjoyed supporting the appeal for the sixth year in a row and hope that a large number of shoeboxes will be dropped off as we enter the final stage.
“I would urge people to drop off their shoebox, at 8 Cherry Tree Centre, Market Street, Huddersfield, HD1 2ET, within the next few days to ensure their shoebox gets to a child in time for Christmas”.
