A brave shopkeeper who was stabbed during a nasty robbery has told of her horrific ordeal.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, was behind the counter at the Costcutter store on Leeds Road, Deighton when a masked man entered and produced a large knife.

Her attacker then jumped on the counter and held a knife to her throat as she tried to grab the phone to call for help.

She said there was a struggle as the man went for the till and her hand was struck with the knife causing a “deep wound”.

The woman said: ”I just want him caught by the police and punished.

“There is some desperate people who don’t work who just want money.”

Detectives are investigating the robbery, which happened at 4.40pm yesterday.

The woman was treated in hospital for the wound.

No arrests have been made yet but police are hunting a known suspect in his early 20s.
