ORGANISERS of Huddersfield’s Easter funfair have being given the go ahead to open on the Leeds Road Playing Fields.

They will use that site having been told they cannot use Greenhead Park as originally planned.

As reported in the Examiner last week, Kirklees Council revealed that the fair would not be allowed at Greenhead Park to protect the grassed areas for future events in the summer.

Meetings between the Showmen’s Guild and Kirklees Council to resolve the situation proved positive though earlier this week and the fair was told it could go ahead at Leeds Road where it was originally held in the 80s and 90s.

The fair will now open as planned on Thursday, April 5, and run until to Tuesday, April 10.

Mal Farrelly, one of the organisers from The Yorkshire Section of the Showmen’s Guild, said they were happy with the news.

“The fair will have something for all members of the family from white knuckle thrillers to wholesome family attractions, with the most spectacular being the Equinox.

“That’s a ride that raises its 24 seats swinging its riders over 30 metres into the air and will be visible for miles around”.
