A man has been arrested in connection with a double stabbing in Huddersfield.

Detectives held the 21-year-old man this afternoon as they investigated the Monday attack and made a new appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The arrested man is believed to have contacted the police himself.

The two victims, a father and son aged 44 and 23, suffered multiple stab wounds in the horrific attack on Leeds Road.

Both were given emergency treatment at the scene by passers-by, including a nurse, and paramedics before being taken to hospital.

Both have since undergone surgery for their injuries and are recovering in hospital following the broad-daylight attack, which happened at 1.37pm on Monday after an altercation in St Andrew’s Road.

The victims fled the scene in a car with serious injuries but were forced to pull over a short distance away in Leeds Road when they realised how badly they were bleeding.

They staggered from the car and were treated by two workmen and a nurse who came to their aid.

Paramedics were called and they were taken to hospital.

Meanwhile detectives are continuing to make enquires following the horrific attack.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Huddersfield CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing. A 21-year-old is currently in custody on suspicion of Section 18 wounding.”

Neighbourhood Police officers have increased patrols in the Leeds Road area to reassure the public and local residents in the wake of the attack.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw the victims in a red Suzuki Alto on St Andrew’s Road prior to the altercation.

Anyone with information should call Huddersfield CID on 101.
