If you love Lego and cult TV show Red Dwarf then how’s this for a good idea?

Bob Turner has combined his twin passions by proposing the creation of a special Red Dwarf sci-fi Lego set - and he’s been backed by over 6,000 fellow fans.

Bob, 34, spent around £200 of his own cash creating the show’s mining ship which features crew quarters, bunkbeds, the space craft Blue Midget and mini Lego figures of the main characters.

He submitted it to Lego’s Ideas website which encourages the public to come up with ideas for their own Lego sets.

In just over two months, Bob’s Red Dwarf idea has attracted over 6,300 supporters and is now on the official Red Dwarf website.

If it gets 10,000 supporters, it will be reviewed by Lego and could become an official set available to buy.

“I’ve been playing with Lego since I was four and I have been a Red Dwarf fan for many years,” said Bob.

“I started buying and selling Lego and restoring sets that I had as a kid and created a small Lego business online.

“When I came across Lego Ideas I decided to submit the Red Dwarf idea. I made it myself but the figures are already out there.”

He’s expecting his idea to feature in two magazines - Bricks and SFX - just before the new series of Red Dwarf returns on Dave at 9pm on Thursday, September 22.

Bob, who lives in Sowerby Bridge with his wife Kelly and four-year-old daughter, said his Lego obsession had turned their box room at home into a “Lego cave”.

“My wife says, and I quote, ‘whatever you’re into and makes you happy is fine with me’.”

“She buys me Lego sets and stuff. She recently bought me a Star Wars Millennium Falcon which cost £90. It took me a few hours to build it.”

Support for the Red Dwarf Lego concept has come from most of the show’s cast, including Craig Charles (Lister) and Clare Grogan (Kochanski) who have re-tweeted Bob’s posts on Twitter.
