A man has been jailed after he was convicted of threatening behaviour and slashing tyres on a car in Huddersfield while under a suspended prison sentence.

Leeds Crown Court heard Leon Irving was given the six month jail term suspended for two years in June 2014 for handling stolen goods.

Ben Thomas prosecuting said a year later on June 30 this year Ian Taylor was helping a friend Charlotte Wise move addresses when they saw Irving some 100 metres away in Dryclough Road, Crosland Moor.

As there had been some problems with him in the past they stayed in Mr Taylor’s car waiting for him to move off but Irving then cycled over to them and shouted abuse through the driver’s window.

He was aggressive and when Mr Taylor told him to go away Irving said: “I’ll go and get my knife to sort you out.” They were concerned for their safety and left the area.

The next morning Joshua Walsh was in a flat and looking out saw Irving crouched down by Mr Taylor’s van and heard the sound of hissing. When he and Mr Taylor went out to check they discovered each tyre was flat having been slashed and they cost £340 to repair.

When Irving was arrested he denied responsibility for the damage and said he had been resting a broken foot at home and was not able to ride a bike on the other day.

Irving, 41 of Dryclough Road had denied threatening or abusive behaviour and damage but was found guilty at Kirklees Magistrate’s Court and committed for sentence.

Jailing Irving for a total of eight months, Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said he was able to reduce the term from the suspended sentence to four months with a further four months consecutive for threatening behaviour and damage.
