A driver was cut from her overturned vehicle following a crash with another vehicle.

The woman was flown to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance following the accident at the junction of Wakefield Road and Greave House Terrace, Lepton, at around 5.40pm yesterday.

Fire crews from Huddersfield freed the woman, who was suspended upside down by her seat belt, from her Fiat 500.

The woman, who was taken to hospital for a check-up, was not thought to have been seriously hurt.

The accident caused tailbacks to Dalton as a section of Wakefield Road was closed and traffic was diverted down Waterloo Road and Penistone Road.

Traffic jams continued into the evening until the stricken vehicle was recovered.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “The injured woman was held in by her seatbelt and was cut out.

“Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

“There were no visible injuries but she was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance for a health check.”
