A FREE opportunity to learn about basic sign language is being given in Huddersfield.

People will also be able to find out how deaf people compose music and play instruments.

The Music and the Deaf charity is staging the event at the town's Media Centre in Northumberland Street on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman said: "The informal event will be an opportunity to ask any questions about deafness or how to help in the local community.

"Included will be a lesson on the alphabet and maybe your favourite lyrics in sign language, plus rhythm games."

The event starts at 4pm and places are limited. It is being held in Deaf Awareness Week.
