WHAT'S all the fuss about the Nemesis club at Honley (Examiner November 5)? If it's been meeting three times a week for 13 months it's kept a very low profile and obviously done no harm.

Richard E Huddleston, West Slaithwaite

JUST found out by reading the front page of the Examiner (November 5), that, for the last 13 months, I have lived 200 yards from a fetish club. So why all the fuss? If the owner and members have been so discreet and not been a bother to anybody, let them carry on.

If the anonymous angry NIMBY had not stumbled on its whereabouts it would have carried on for years unnoticed to local prudes. Bet most folk would be more shocked to know what went on in their own back yards after dark .

As for the nearby children's play gym, I should hope these little angels were tucked up in bed at the time the fetish parties kicked off.

I have a couple of old car innertubes hanging around, might cut them up to make a suit and pop along to see for myself what goes on in such a club - only for curiosity, honest.

Mike Madden, Honley

I AM a reponsible mother and I have attended fetish clubs before, although not Nemesis. I was alerted to the article by friends who go there. I was told that most people do not arrive at the club till after 11pm and therefore there will no children around.

Also, if people get changed at the club or are discreet on arrival I do not see any problem. I hope the publicity will give others an opportunity to reflect their feelings and that people will read these and be more open-minded.

Kit, London

I AM a resident of Honley, I am a parent in Honley and I have attended an evening at Nemesis.

I have also attended local pubs in Honley and nightclubs in the nearest "big city" and have seen more trouble, nudity and lewd behaviour in these places than at Nemesis!!!

If Clr Mike Bower would like to spend time disinfecting our area, may I be so bold as to suggest he starts by finding an alternative area for the youths of Honley to loiter rather than outside the local shops. I would be grateful for this, as they intimidate me when I'm on my way to the fetish club!!!

Mags, Holmfirth

TO describe Nemesis as a sex club is far from true. It's no sex club and nor have I ever seen children there. The club is on an industrial site which is locked at night!!! If we are so concerned for the welfare of children what are they doing out after 10pm? As far as I see, the club is causing no problems to Honley at all.

Elen, Honley

HAVING myself been to Nemesis I can honestly say I'm shocked and appalled at the link made with the children's play area. We are NOT paedophiles. Everything we do is consensual between both parties and is always negotiated. Most people who attend are in loving, stable relationships and are from a broad range of backgrounds.

In my view this is just our choice of sexuality, and just as gay/lesbians were opressed, we are now.

Karen, Manchester

IT seems to me that people are more concerned about fireworks, the NHS, local traffic, the antics of the local council and local crime, far more than a group of adults getting together behind locked doors for activities that are private and do not involve any minors or people who have not consented to what is going on.

About all I can say is that this is how it should be - the first group of issues are far more important than a fetish club. May I suggest that the person who is running the hate campaign direct their energies towards dealing with fireworks, crime, the NHS, local traffic and the local council? That way they might actually do some good!

Concerned, Manchester

I DON'T believe the fuss about a few people having a fetish club on an industrial estate here in Honley.

That the club has existed for over a year without prior mention shows how discreet it is. Its location was unknown to all but a few.

Over the years in Honley there's been wife swapping clubs I used to go to with my late husband, with no mention ever made, despite the numbers involved.

These people with their harmless little club tucked away out of sight meeting late in the evening are probably an asset to their neighbours as their security men guard the members' vehicles. The one I met, a great big bearded chap, was nothing other than polite and friendly although I don't think I'd want to upset him.

Far more worrying is the nature of the graffiti in the vicinity, and the implications for our young people.

Elsie, Huddersfield

I AM dismayed to think that people can be so narrow minded. It would be good to see what the person who originally posted the letters to the residents anonymously has to gain by this? Shouldn't we be more concerned about the children walking the streets that late at night rather than what goes on behind closed doors?

Ange, Bolton

THE fact that the fetish club (note, not sex club, it is not a brothel) has been unknown to its nearest neighbours for such a long time, indicates that it does not impose any threat to the locality and nor does it wish to.

Unfortunately I fear that the ignorance of the local scaremongers having made this now very public knowledge, is far more likely to attract trouble from bigots, who prefer to condemn out of fear anything which they do not understand. I thought we were supposed to be living in the twenty first century, not the sixteenth!

Sam, Huddersfield

ALL I can say is, it is a shame that I only hear about clubs and events like this existing when they are being reported in the Examiner.

Naughty Huddersfield Girl

I FREQUENT the Nemesis club mentioned and I am frankly appalled that the club has been smeared by self righteous, self serving and paranoid people. And absolutely shocked that the "sex club" (which is a wholly inaccurate statement!) is mentioned in the same sentence as children! I personally have never witnessed any sexual activity in this club and I have been a member since the opening. The local inhabitants and children are more at risk from the young yobs and drunks who occupy their streets than the consenting adults who go to this strictly members-only club.

Betty, West Yorkshire

ONE wonders if the sudden illogical furore over this club after 13 months has anything to do with the re-election of George W Bush. Perhaps this is the first reflection of the spread of his brand of religious conservatism and extremism to this country - though I hope not!

Chris, Glastonbury

FETISH club in Honley? Why ever not? Your article states that it's a private membership club and therefore won't affect anyone, least of all children. I'd be far more worried about going to dance clubs and pubs than trying to get into a private members club.
