Student carer clinches top grades to get dream university place

A Huddersfield student who is a full time carer alongside her studies has received straight A*s.

Greenhead student Grace Goswami didn’t disclose in her university application that she was a young carer as she didn’t want ‘special treatment’ and was worried it may affect her chances of getting her dream place at Newcastle University. Today Grace was told she received three A*s.

She said: “I was not expecting these grades and I have never cried tears of happiness until today. I came on my own to Greenhead College and have really grown in confidence. I wouldn’t have got these results if it hadn’t been for the support from my personal tutor.”

Fantastic news for Grace - we wish her all the best in the world. She is pictured below with friend Jack Hopkins, who also got top grades and is going to to study dentistry.

Greenhead named top college in the county

Greenhead’s results are through and have confirmed its status as top sixth form for A Levels in Yorkshire.

The overall pass rate has been revealed as 99.4%, with 84.8% of all grades at A*-C and 63.3% at A*-B. Some 1,023 students gained A Level passes in three or more subjects, with 23 students gaining A*/A in 4 or more subjects, and 180 gaining A*/A in 3 subjects.

College Principal Simon Lett said:

“I am immensely proud of these magnificent results, which are actually even better than last year’s achievements. The hard work and commitment of our students have clearly paid off and they will now go on to achieve even greater success at university or in employment. I would also like to thank our brilliant staff for the steadfast support and guidance they have given our students.”
