COLNE Valley councillor Gordon Beever is making a bid to land a seat in the Commons.
The 58-year-old will stand for the Liberal Democrats in Ryedale, North Yorkshire.
He will be challenging in a constituency where the Tories had a 4,875 majority at the 2001 election.
Clr Beever, an accountant, has served 22 years on Kirklees Council and was a Cabinet member until June.
It will be his fourth attempt to get into Parliament, having stood in Batley and Spen in 1992, Huddersfield in 1997 and Colne Valley in 2001.
