A TORY councillor has reacted with horror to Liberal Democrat proposals for child sex education.
The Liberal Democrats proposed at their party conference last week that sex education should be compulsory for children as young as seven in infant schools, and also indicated that they intended to hand out contraceptives to children as young as 11 in secondary schools.
Thornhill councillor Khizar Iqbal said: "These policies that the Liberal Democrats have developed are disgraceful and potentially very damaging.
"What kind of world are they encouraging our children to grow up in?
"As for teaching seven-year-olds about sexual relationships, including transsexuals, well that is just mind bogglingly abhorrent.
"I would like to know if the party intends introducing such policies in Kirklees schools.
"On one hand the council employs bilingual support assistants who manage to ensure that many Asian children can't speak proper English at 16, but on the other hand they will have known all about sex from the age of seven. It's madness."
