THE Lib Dems have unveiled their manifesto for a “fairer country”.

Leader Nick Clegg launched his party’s election programme in London yesterday.

The manifesto includes a commitment to raise income tax allowance to £10,000 and enforce a “mansion tax” on homes worth more than £2m.

The Lib Dems plan to scrap ID cards and strategic health authorities and reduce the number of MPs by 150.

The manifesto also includes a commitment to bring in 3,000 new police officers and put a £400 cap on public sector pay rises.

Mr Clegg said: “Our manifesto will hardwire fairness into British society. This is not a promise. It is a plan.

“If you have ever looked at the Liberal Democrats and thought they have got the right ideas but can they deliver, the answer is this manifesto.

“We can and we will.”

Labour’s work and pensions secretary Yvette Cooper criticised the Lib Dem manifesto, saying there was a “multi-billion pound gap” in their plans.

Conservative shadow chief secretary to the Treasury Philip Hammond said “the numbers don’t add up.”
