A LOCAL library is on the move - to a squash court!
Cleckheaton Library will relocate temporarily to a squash court at Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre to allow essential electrical work to be carried out on the building.
The library will close at 4pm on Saturday, February 26, so the building can be rewired and a new fire alarm system installed.
The work is expected to take 11 weeks.
A book lending service will operate from a squash court at the nearby sports centre on Turnsteads Avenue from Monday, March 7. A limited reference collection will also be available.
Ann Blakeley, library manager for North Kirklees, said: "We feel that in the interests of customers and staff, it is best to relocate during this work as different areas of the library will be out of use at different times.
"Also, false ceilings will have to be removed
to carry out part of the work and that raised health and safety
She said that Kirklees Active Leisure, which runs Whitcliffe Mount
Sports Centre on behalf of Kirklees Council, had been extremely accommodating and keen to help the library maintain a service in the town.
As well as the squash court, the sports centre is allowing the library the use of other areas such as the bar lounge for poetry and reading groups.
