Work on a stalled supermarket building project is expected to restart on Monday.

German supermarket chain Lidl had been preparing to build a store on the former site of Sicame Electrical Developments, Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth.

But building work was suspended in October because of problems with the foundations of the site and a culvert which ran through the site.

In December, Lidl announced work would resume on February 10.

And earlier this week boards were installed around the perimeter as diggers moved in.

On February 6, Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney tweeted: “The boards are up and being painted.

“The diggers are back on site so the construction of Holmfirth’s new Lidl looks set to start on Monday.”

Mr McCartney added: “After many months of rumours and uncertainty it looks as though the construction of the new Lidl store is about to start.”
