A serial sex attacker dubbed the `Moors Rapist' was given nine life sentences at Manchester Crown Court. Charles Smith, 48, took his victims up to the "sinister, dark, barren location" of Saddleworth Moor where they thought they were going to be killed. The location, above Oldham in Greater Manchester, became infamous as the burial ground for children killed by Moors murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. He was caught on May 11 after one woman noted his registration number.
