A DANGEROUS wall that councillors say is in a life-threatening state of disrepair will be fixed.

The retaining wall, on Malvern Road in Primrose Hill, has become badly bowed under the weight of tonnes of earth.

It belongs to Primrose Hill Bowling Club, which could not afford the minimum £20,000 repair bill.

Kirklees Council’s Huddersfield Town and Valley Committee has now agreed to cover the cost.

Newsome councillor Julie Stewart-Turner said she had turned to the committee after council officers failed to appreciate “the financial realities of a small community organisation like Primrose Hill Bowling Club having to find such a huge sum”.

She added: “Ultimately lives could be at risk here and we can’t be arguing about where responsibility lies when the consequences of not taking action could be fatal.”
