A VITAL charity show has been saved.

The annual RSPCA horse show raises much needed cash for the charity and is held every September in Greenhead Park.

This year, work has started on improving Greenhead Park, so the show was left without a home.

Now Jane Chambers, owner of Hopton Horse Centre, stepped in and has kindly lent the charity the use of her land, off Jackroyd Lane, Upper Hopton.

The centre is also used for the annual RDA horse show, so many riders will already be familiar with the venue.

The show can now go ahead as usual, and will take place this year on Saturday, September 5.

All the usual classes are there, including Mountain and Moorland, Equitation, Veteran and Working Hunter alongside the new addition of a ridden coloured class, open to skewbalds, piebalds, Appaloosas and spotted horses.

There is plenty of choice and something for riders of every ability.

Show organiser, Sue Bray said: “We wish to thank Jane Chambers for allowing us to hold the show at Hopton Horse Centre this year and to Kirklees Culture & Leisure Services for providing the rosettes. Also our thanks to our sponsors for their continued support.”

The charity relies heavily on the money raised from the show.

Last year, the show had to be cancelled due to bad weather, so it is even more important that this year’s show is a success, so make sure you turn up to support it!

After one event has been saved, another fantastic venue is being launched.

Turbury Equine in Halifax is holding a Charity Open Day to launch its exciting new cross country course on Sunday, August 9.

Turbury Equine will become the only cross country course in Calderdale available for hire. The 20 jumps are set in 8 acres of open countryside and range from 18” to 3’3 to cater for all abilities.

Advanced Eventer Sue Chadwick BHSI will be conducting a course walk and ridden demonstration.

Sue, who is based in Golcar, said: “A cross country course is just what we need in this area to make a more readily available training experience for everyone.”

Simple Feed Systems and Intelligent Worming will be giving short talks, with Hird & Partners Vets and Calderdale Horsewatch also on hand for help and advice. Local horse owners will be given the opportunity to sell tack and equipment or bag a bargain at the Tack Car Boot.

Turbury Equine will be supporting the Horse Trust Charity by donating all profits from the day to their Sweet Itch Immunology Research Project. Dawn Lumb of Turbury Equine said: “Sweet itch is a terrible affliction with no cure. It affects many horses through the summer months so the possibility of a potential vaccine is a fantastic prospect and worth cause.”

The events takes place on August 9 from 12pm to 5pm. Admission is £7.50 including pie, peas and a hot drink.
