It was lights, cameras, action for a group of budding young film makers who turned from pupils into an international film crew overnight.

Three students from Kirklees College have set their media careers rolling after being picked to produce short movies for businesses - in France.

After jetting off to film in Bordeaux for two weeks, the media studies students have been recording and editing numerous projects that focus on the area’s life and culture.

Cinematographer, Chris Doodson, sound recorder and editor, Emma Patel and director, Kieran Stringfellow, have been using their skills to shoot scenes in primary schools, on top of sand dunes, cafés, restaurants and shops across the city.

The European Commission provided funding for their adventure, which was made possible by Huddersfield company, the Language Alliance.

During their adventure the trio will also have the opportunity to forge links with the students from the city’s well-renowned Institute of Media and Journalism.

Sowerby Bridge resident, Emma, 17, said: “It’s been a great opportunity being able to do work experience not only in the industry we like but in a different country funded by the European Union.

Director of the company, which organises funded work experience trips to France, Spain and Germany, Juliet Park, said: ‘Our trips can be life-changing experiences for our participants, it widens their horizons, they make useful contacts and we encourage all our students to study a business language course.”

They have also received support from Guillame Fontaine, who runs film and webcasting business DWAM and students will forging links with the Institute of Media and Journalism when they spend a day with fellow French media students next week.
