CHANGES to make a Huddersfield road junction safer begin on Monday.

The work at Manchester Road, Longroyd Bridge, will take about eight weeks.

A separately-controlled right-hand turn will be provided into Longroyd Lane and a better controlled right turn into St Thomas's Road.

Kirklees Council said the move is being made after public calls to make the junction safer. The improvements were also expected to relieve traffic congestion.

Work will be restricted to between 9.30am and 4.30pm to reduce traffic disruption.

Two new traffic islands will be built and the traffic lights refurbished.

The estimated cost is £60,000.
