A SEASIDE haven is to be created for a day in an industrial Kirklees town.

Dewsbury town centre will host a sandy beach where children can play with buckets and spades and enjoy donkey rides.

A Punch and Judy show will entertain and traditional cockles and mussels will be sold. A road train, sponsored by the HSBC bank, will take visitors around the town.

There will be live music to suit all tastes from Yorkshire Traction Honley Brass Band to Dhesi Drums and the New Orleans Jazz Band.

Adding to the fun will be `larger than life' George and Martha Jenkins, characters from Bamforth's saucy seaside postcards.

The event, the seventh annual Dewsbury On Sea day, will be held on Saturday, August 28.

Activities take place between 10am and 4pm. Ring Hilary Thompson on 01924 324661.
