Lindley Community Choir’s first concert is being hailed a great success.

Friends and supporters packed into Holy Trinity Church in Huddersfield to hear the 100-person choir sing alongside professional baritone, Robert Gildon, from London and local musicians Heather Heath, Laura Kitson and Matthew Wilson.

The event raised almost £1,500 for the charity Talkthru, based in St. Peter’s Street, Huddersfield, which offers free counselling for women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy or baby loss.

Talkthru administrator Helen Gunshon said: “It was a superb evening and we have had heaps of positive feedback from people who were extremely impressed by the standard and professionalism of the choir.

“Special thanks to Alison North for making the choir what it is, and agreeing to support Talkthru in this way, and to Emma for her wonderful accompaniment.

“The fantastic news is that you raised a whopping £1470, which has absolutely made my day - if not year! As a small charity, events like this make a big difference to our funds; please know that your support is extremely valuable and will in turn help Talkthru to support local people both through our counselling services and baby equipment project.

“It was great night and it is a pleasure to be part of such a lovely community.”

Lindley Community Choir was set up in 2011, and since then the enthusiastic choristers have continued to meet in 10-week blocks every winter, culminating in an annual performance.

Last year they received a coveted Choir of the Day award in the regional heats of the National Choir of the Year in Leeds, and this year they won the Hepworth Cup in the Mrs Sunderland Festival.
