THEY married in one of the coldest winters on record.

And their wedding at Oakes Baptist Chapel in 1962 was delayed for more than 80 minutes as guests struggled to get there in the wintry conditions.

But now Bob and Jean Elliott, of Lidget Street, Lindley, are celebrating their golden wedding.

Mrs Elliott, 70, recalled: “It was bitterly cold at Oakes but fine, but elsewhere it was really bad for guests trying to get there.”

The couple had met at Charles Frost’s dance studios in Huddersfield.

Mr Elliott, 72, worked as an engineering pattern-maker for several firms, including 36 years at Arthur Jackson’s in Rastrick.

He is a member of LIndley WMC, enjoys snooker and football, and is a keen watercolour artist.

His wife worked at Nu-Swift in Elland before leaving to raise a family, but is best known for her 28 years as a lollipop lady in Lindley.

The couple have two daughters and a son and three grandchildren. They celebrated with a family get-together.
