Sports, stalls, games and rides feature in the Lindley Carnival taking place this weekend.

A weekend of events are planned including the annual summer carnival and a 10k charity run.

Now in its 8th year, the fun will be centred on the Fernlea Recreation Grounds between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the two Lindley Junior School choirs as well as the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band – Yorkshire’s premier military-style concert band and marching band.

As in previous years, there will be games, rides, food stalls and much more with local schools churches and many local businesses taking part.

Salendine Nook weatherman Paul Stevens will officially open the event this year.

On Sunday runners will be under starting orders for Lindley 10k run.

On the day there will be two runs – the first at 9am there will be a fun run for children between four and 15 then at 9.30am the adult runners will set off for the 10k.

Afterwards Lindley Infant School will be hosting a family fun day between 11am and 3pm.

Clr Cahal Burke, Chair of Lindley Community Group, said: “We have a fantastic weekend of community events and activities set to take place over the course of the weekend and encourage as many people as possible to come out and enjoy themselves with their family and friends.

“Thanks to all the volunteers, businesses, community groups, schools, the council and everyone else who has worked so hard and will work so hard over the course of the weekend to make it all come together.”
