With prices starting at £250,000 residents thought they were buying luxury.

But the owners of Harron Homes properties at Lindley have been left with damp, flooded garages and 2ft holes in their garden.

Now a group of residents say enough is enough and want the house-builder to take action.

Their complaints have prompted an apology from the firm.

Oliver Moorhouse and wife Lucy moved into their home last May with their two children.

He said: “With new homes you expect a few snagging problems, but this is beyond that. There are serious issues and it doesn’t matter how many times we call or how many of us have the same problem Harron Homes are just not sorting it.”

It was autumn’s rain that revealed Dryden Way’s damp and flooding issues.

Oliver explained: “Most of the houses have bay windows and we noticed damp patches. They sent someone out who was meant to fix it but many are still damp now.

“My garage has flooded three times. Once it ruined everything we were storing in there and the customer service rep told me they don’t recommend storing things in garages and it was our own fault.”

New mother Liz Brindley added: “Our bathroom floor was uneven, it went up in the middle. At first we were told the structural beam may have bowed and a structural engineer will need to come out with tilers.

“They pulled the floor up and cemented it, the workmen scuffed the tiles in the shower leaving a mess.

“Three times they’ve been out and not resolved it. There’s cracks in my house and I’m wondering if it’s connected.”

Will Hoyle faced difficulties before he moved in – days before he was due to exchange Harron Homes dropped the part exchange on his property by £10,000, though he was able to negotiate it. When he did move in damp issues meant Harron Homes had to replace carpets.

A 2ft hole caused by a collapsed drain is worrying James Musgrave, who has a young child, but calls have not resolved it. He also has issues with garage flooding and damp at his bay window and was left without flooring for two weeks.

Other neighbours report issues with the drains, street lights, cracks in front doors, gaps between interior doors and the architrave and loose fence panels, while a duct under the street collapsed.

Alan Cadman, construction director for Harron Homes, said: “We are aware of the frustrations experienced by some of our valued purchasers and would like to take this opportunity to reassure them that we are committed to rectifying their issues.

“Many of the issues have been fixed previously but given months of bad weather and the notoriously exposed location of many of the properties, some problems have unfortunately, reoccurred.

“In line with the construction industry as a whole we have experienced significant delays in securing trades to undertake the remedial work, especially on developments where there is no longer any active construction present.”

He added a new Customer Care Manager has been appointed and will be visiting the Lindley Park homes “as matter of urgency”.

Mr Cadman added: “Moreover I have called an emergency meeting with our subcontractors next week so we can identify clear timescales for any works to be carried out and completed in line with customer availability.

“As Yorkshire’s premier homebuilder we remain confident in the quality of the homes we build but realise the current level of customer care is simply not acceptable. We are genuinely sorry for the inconvenience caused and are taking a robust and direct approach to resolving them as soon as possible.”
