A CLERGYMAN is to keep his links with parishes of St John when he comes to Kirk- heaton this summer.
The Rev Richard John Steel will be installed as the new Rector of St John the Baptist, Kirkheaton, on Thursday, August 11.
He is currently honorary curate of St John in Stoke next Guildford, Surrey.
And he has previously worked in the parishes of St John Newland in Hull and Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
Mr Steel is also the communications director for the Church Mission Society and has recently returned from a 10-day trip to Sri Lanka following the Boxing Day tsunami disaster.
He has worked for the society for eight years and has also done mission work in Sudan.
Mr Steel, who was born and brought up in Sussex and Surrey, studied for a degree in archaeology at Durham University.
He then worked in a children's home and did youth work in Liverpool.
He then trained for the ministry and became curate at St John Newland. He was a volunteer with Radio Humberside.
He then became religious programmes producer and presenter for Radio Trent and was chaplain to Central Television.
He was curate at Long Eaton before becoming communications officer for the Blackburn diocese. While there, he helped to produce the Church of England's first website.
Mr Steel is married to Jan and they have two teenage sons.
