A former textile weaver who was born and bread in Linthwaite has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Lilian Bolam celebrated her special milestone with family and friends at Cowlersley Court Nursing Home.

She grew up in Linthwaite and met her childhood sweetheart Norman.

He was a joiner and she worked at Mallinson’s Mill in Linthwaite. He sadly died 30 years ago.

They married and had two children, Eric and Keith.

Her son Keith travelled to visit his mother from his home in northern Aberdeenshire in Scotland for her big day.

He has a stepdaughter Caroline who has two children Emily and Ethan.

Mrs Bolam enjoyed ballroom dancing and sewing and made many of her own clothes which take pride of place in her wardrobe and she still wears today.

She lived independently at her Linthwaite bungalow until recently when she moved to the home and has settled in well.

She enjoyed a steak dinner on her birthday before a tea party at the home and entertainment from a singer.

She also received a card from the Queen.
