A music tutor has appeared in court accused of groping girls who went to his home for lessons.

Neil Garland, 70, of Cowlersley Lane in Linthwaite , was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He faces four charges of indecent assault dating back to 1974.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said that the school children involved in the alleged offences were at the time aged between 12 and 15.

He told magistrates that Garland was giving them private music lessons at his home.

He is alleged to have touched and groped the complainants’ breasts.

Garland gave no indication of his plea to the charges.

Magistrates committed his case to Leeds Crown Court, where he will first appear on April 22.

He was granted unconditional bail.
