Handyman Grant Calcraft found himself (plaster) cast into a TV role.

The Linthwaite plasterer found himself working alongside TV property expert Phil Spencer on his Channel Four show.

Grant, 23, was head-hunted by the production company behind Phil Spencer: Secret Agent to carry out work on a house in desperate need of repairs.

The programme casts Phil as an estate agent where he values homes for sale and helps increase their value.

Grant, of GSC Plasterers, worked on a house in Hebden Bridge for two days in February.

The programme is expected to air this summer.

Grant, who has been working as a plasterer since leaving school, said: “I was recommended on Yell.com and Channel Four approached me.

“The house was in a really bad condition. The inside walls were really bad so we spent two days repairing them.

“I spent about three hours with Phil. He was a really nice chap and was very happy with the job we did.

“I definitely hope it will boost my business.”

In 2012, Phil Spencer helped make three Huddersfield homes – in Meltham Road, Marsden; Ballroyd Lane, Longwood and Netheroyd Hill Road, Fixby – more saleable.

Malcolm and Muriel Lock’s tired 1930s semi in Marsden sold shortly after Phil’s makeover.

The house, featured on an episode screened a year ago, had been on the market for three years prior to the programme.
