IT’S been second time lucky for 17-year-old dancer Amelia Fielding.

Amelia, of Linthwaite , has been crowned Miss Dance 2013 after finishing third last year.

The Huddersfield New College student beat thousands of girls in the heats before triumphing over some of the country’s finest in the final at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

But she admits she was stricken by nerves on the eve of the contest.

Amelia, who attends the Adele Taylor School of Dance, Dundas Street, performed her three-minute modern jazz routine as the finalists were whittled down from 52 to one.

Committed Amelia practised her routine countless times – and her effort paid off.

She said: “I was really nervous in the week coming up to it. When I was waiting at the side of the stage I’d never been that nervous before.

“The standard was really high so I had to make sure that I performed my best and I was just really lucky to get as far as I did.

“I was absolutely ecstatic to win. I don’t think I will come down for a long time.”

She added: “The support from my family was superb – I don’t know what I would have done without them.”

Last year, Amelia finished third in the prestigious contest but because she’s now won it she’s not allowed to enter again.

Amelia isn’t bothered though.

She said: “I don’t mind because now I can go and watch it and enjoy it.

“I’ll have to make a speech because that’s what the winner of the previous year has to do.”
