He’s a musician quite like no other ... and he’s from Huddersfield.
Flautist Simeon Wood is so proud of his Yorkshire roots he has played the county’s anthem On Ilkley Moor Baht ‘at on a bicyle pump to celebrate the Tour de France and the Tour de Yorkshire that brings top class cyclists to the county.
He’s a busy man notching up way more miles than the cyclists. During an average year he travels around 80,000 miles performing in 160 shows.
And when he’s not touring he writes music for TV and theatre productions,
Simeon’s 11th solo album Homeward Bound will be released in June.
Simeon started playing the flute at the age of eight. Huddersfield nurtured his talent through the six youth orchestras, numerous music competitions and a string of dedicated teachers. From 1983 to 1987 he studied performance and composition at Trinity College of Music, London.
He’s now a multi-instrumentalist and can play 20 instruments from the flute through to the didgeridoo ... and even an NHS walking stick.
