DOZENS of people enjoyed an annual civic evening.

Eighty-two guests gathered for the Meltham Town Council Chairman’s Dinner on Friday.

Representatives from parish councils in Holme Valley, Kirkburton, Denby Dale, Ripponden and Saddleworth enjoyed a three-course meal at Durker Roods in Meltham.

The Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Clr Eric Firth, and his wife, Janet, also attended the dinner.

Simon Ball, organist at St Bartholomew’s Church in the town, gave the after-dinner speech.

His wife Stephanie then performed a light opera piece for guests.

Meltham Town Council chairman Shirley Watson said: “It was a wonderful evening”.
